I am blogging this recipe exactly after the IDLI WITH A SURPRISE recipe. I felt that the hearts alone were too tasty, that it can make great party starter,served with coconut chutney!
Also,a lovely Tiffin box Idea. Rather than giving them regular idlis,these colourful and healthy ones are definetly a must try! If your kid has a sweet tooth, then you can make the sweet version too. But I personally recommend the savoury one!
Let us start preparing.
1. In a mixer,add the par boiled beetroot,chillies and ginger.Grind to a fine paste.In a pan, heat a tsp of oil.Add the beetroot paste and saute' for 5 minutes, so that all the water will get absorbed. Allow it to cool.
2. Mix a portion of the Idli batter with this beetroot paste and pour it in a greased pan. Steam it for 10 to 15 minutes or till a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
3. Allow it to cool completely. Using a cookie cutter, cut the pink Idlis in any shape you like. I made heart shapes.
You can make sandwiches with these hearts using cream cheese/ curd cheese/thick chutney etc and
pack them for tiffin box. You can even make one white and one heart shape sandwich. Options are innumerable.
