Carrot Kosumalli Recipe | Carrot Moong Dal Kosambari | South Indian Style Carrot Salad | Gluten Free and Vegan Recipe

Carrot Moong Dal Kosambari

Hi Supermoms,

The beauty of Indian festivals and special days lies in the food served on such occasions. In South India, food is served on a banana leaf. The festive platter/sappadu/meal or thali starts with fruit , a ladle of payasam/kheer and salads. A small piece of banana is cut along with the skin and served.

Next comes the salad or the kosumalli/kosambari. This is a refreshing salad with sweet, sour and spicy flavours. Fresh carrots make the best kosumalli. The salad has yellow moong dal/bean and grated coconut.

You need to taste this salad to experience the flavours . You will be amazed at how simple ingredients added together in the right quantity and with minimum steps can give such a tasty and healthy dish.

The carrot kosumalli is a heirloom recipe. The best tasting kosumalli is that of my grandmother 💖.  I always make this dish on weekends and special days . However, you can make it everyday. It is so easy to make and is wholesome. You can even add in few more grated vegetables .

A traditional Tamil Sappadu is in complete without Kosumalli. Presenting the delicious and crunchy Carrot Kosumalli Recipe.
