CALZONE | How to make Calzone at home | Stepwise Pictures

Hi SUPERMOMS,

Instead of always making the pizza, we can try various other dishes that would definetly attract kids and old equally.
CALZONEs are closed pizza or you can call them pizza pockets. But I gave a a slight twist to it!
In pizza we top with raw vegetables,is'nt it? See, we can do the same with Calzone. But I had made a paneer stuffing. If you are a non vegetarian, then chicken stuffing would be great. For the vegetarians, soya ,mushroom stuffing would do wonders. It adds to the protein content for children.

I have used half ALL PURPOSE Flour and half whole wheat flour. You can use either of them completly.

The dough is the same as pizza dough. How much easier can this get?
If you are going to pack them to school, then allow the dough to slow rise in the refrigerator.

INGREDIENTS:

For the dough:

All purpose flour- 5 cups ( I used 250 APF and 250 gms WWF)

Salt- 1 tsp

Sugar-1 tbsp

Quick rising yeast /Rapid rise instant yeast-1 tsp

Warm water- 1 1/2 cup( might differ according to the quality of flour)

Olive oil1 tbsp

Filling :

Your choice of filling

Let us start preparing the dough.

1.In a large bowl, add the flour, salt, sugar and yeast. Mix everything together well. Pour luke warm water in the dough and start binfing the dough. Add the oil and keep kneading. Add extra water if you feel that the dough is hard. You should be kneading a little sticky dough.

2.The water has to be warm and not HOT!

3.Make a well and pour the warm water.

The sticky dough. This is how it looks before You start to knead.

4.Knead for 10 minutes or until you get a smooth dough.  Grease a bowl and place the dough inside and cover it with a damp towel or cling wrap. Place it in a warm place to rise for 25 minutes to 40 minutes.
The dough would have reasonably risen and will look like this.

5.Take a large oven friendly pan or a baking tray and grease it with butter.

6. While the dough rests, prepare the filling. You can make your own favourite filling. I made a paneer/cottage cheese  filling with tomato puree and added basil and parsley for the extra flavour. I did not add cheese. You can add it if you want it more rich.

7. Punch down the dough and using a rolling pin , roll to make a big rectangle like this.

8. Cut them into smaller squares and in each square at one end put the filling and close it from the other side. Pinch the ends to close. using a plastic spoon, seal it completely. Just poke on the top for air to escape.

9. Repeat this for the entire batch and allow it to rise inside the oven for another 15 minutes.

10.Preheat the oven for 10 minutes and bake the calzones for 10 minutes or till the sides brown. Brushing it with butter is optional. Allow the calzones to cool in the rack if you are packing them.

Or else, it is ready to be devoured HOT!!!!!

I am sure, I have tempted you with this recipe!

HAPPY COOKING!

With love,
