Every State in India has it's own popular Street Food recipes. You might have heard about 'Dabeli' . It is a Gujarati Street Food , our very own Desi Burger that has so many flavours packed in it. If you haven't tried making this amazing street food at home, I recommend you to give it a try.
A hand ful of ingredients and an advance preparation of the sweet chutney and chilli garlic powder, makes your work easy . Addition of pomegranates and grapes increases the flavour of Dabeli.
Without further delay, let us learn how to make Dabeli at home.
Kutchi Dabeli Recipe:
Preparation time : 10 minutes
Cooking time : 25 minutes
Serves : 4
1 cup = 250 ml cup
Ingredients :
8 pav buns
2 tablespoons butter
3 teaspoons chilli garlic powder ( roast 5 dry red chillies, 5 garlic pods , grind them to a coarse powder)
For the potato filling ( to be cooked) :
3 large potatoes ( peeled, boiled and mashed)
1 onion ( finely chopped)
1 tomato ( finely chopped)
1/8 teaspoon turmeric powder
2 teaspoons Vangi Bhat Masala powder
1/3 cup cilantro ( finely chopped)
1 teaspoon oil
salt to taste
Other ingredients :
1/4 cup roasted peanuts
1/4 cup pomegranate seeds
4-5 grapes ( purple , optional)
3 teaspoons meetha chutney / sweet chutney for chaat
1 onion ( finely chopped)
For garnish :
1 onion ( finely chopped)
1/2 cup dressing sev / nylon sev
1/3 cup pomegranate
2 teaspoons finely chopped cilantro/coriander leaves
Method :
1. Heat a kadai with oil, add onion and tomatoes.
2. Add salt, turmeric powder, vangi bhat masala and fry till the tomatoes breakdown , turn soft and extra moisture is absorbed.
3. Add the mashed potatoes, mix well and cook for 3-4 minutes.
4. Add cilantro and switch off.
5. Transfer the potato mixture to a wide vessel and add the pomegranate seeds, onions, cilantro leaves , meetha chutney, groundnuts , grapes and mix well.
6. Cut the pav bun into half without fully separating them. Apply butter and the chilli garlic powder.
7. Spoon the potato filling ( as much as you can) and close the bun.
8. In a plate, spread the dressing sev, onions and pomegranate. Dip the bun to coat the potato filling .
9. Heat a tava with butter and toast your Dabelis.
Delicious Kutchi Dabeli is ready to be served.
