DINNER ROLLS

Hi SUPERMOMS,

As a child , I was always fond of bakery items like bun, cream puff, vegetable sandwich from Iyengar Bakery, bread with jam and cream....I can go on....Now a days, with the changing tastebuds of the younger generation and with the invasion of PIZZA HUTS and MC DONALDS, I don't see many bakeries.

The joy of having freshly baked buns/breads with hot soup especially during winters is just heavenly.
I will be sharing some recipes of breads in this new section " Breads".

You need
1.

plain flour-600 gms,3tsp rapid rise yeast,1/2 tsp salt,1tbsp castor sugar,375 ml milk,25 gms butter
For topping I used butter and dry herbs. You can use same seeds or poppy seeds too.

2.

In a pan, add milk and butter. Let it become warm.

3. Add all the dry ingredients together .Keep aside one cup of flour to add later.

4.Pour the warm milk/butter into the flour and with a fork, mix the contents . Make sure that the milk is warm and not Hot.

5.

using the dough machine, mix the dough till you get a silky smooth texture. Add the extra dough while using the machine so that the dough does not stick to your hands. If you are using your hand to knead, then knead for atleast 20 to 25 minutes. Add the remaining cup of dough little by little while kneading.

6.

It took about 10 minutes to. knead in the machine for me.you will get a silky smooth dough.

7.
Now, grease a large bowl with oil.

8.
Place the dough inside the bowl and click wrap it. Leave the dough aside in a warm place( frige top will be ideal) for the dough to double. Give an hour for this. Proving time is 1 hour

9.
You can see the doubled up dough.

10.

Now punch down the air in the dough and make small balls and place them in the baking sheets.
Cover the dough with a wet kitchen towel and again keep in a warm place for it to rise. At least 40 minutes. Please keep the balls closer to each other so that the balls expand and stick to each other.( I felt that this is essential, had not kept it close enough!!!)

11. After 40 minutes, you will see that the dough has risen again. Just brush the top part with milk. You can add egg white if you want. Also you can sprinkle sesame seeds or poppy seeds. I used mixed herbs!!

12. Preheat the oven at 220 degrees for 10 minutes and bake the buns for 15 to 20 minutes at 180 degrees. Remove and cool it in the rack. You can brush it with melted butter.

Soft and fluffy dinner rolls are ready to be served. You can make hot soup - a perfect companion to the rolls. We had it with hot vegetable soup. Divine!!!
