Cheddar Cheese Basil Drop Biscuits

Hi Supermoms,

This recipe was a ' Bake Along Challenge' which I took few weeks ago.
So easy to make and tastes so different from the regular biscuits. The addition of Basil leaves is the key to the unique flavour of these biscuits.
A tea time snack and it is so satisfying to bake this biscuit as it involves less effort but gives awesome output!!!
 Original Recipe from www.shewearsmanyhats.com
Adapted from www.fondbites.com ( recipe by Gayathri Kumar)

  1. Drop biscuits are basically ,dough dropped from a spoon onto a pan for baking.

If you are new to baking, then this is a good recipe to start your baking journey. Do shop for measuring cups and spoons as you can avoid baking failures if you are going to follow the measurements.

Ingredients:

1.Flour-2 cups
2. Sugar-1 tbsp
3.Baking powder-2 tsp
4.Baking Soda- 1/4 tsp
5.Salt-3/4 tsp
6.Black pepper-1 tsp
7.Dried Basil-1 tbsp
8.Cold Butter- 1/4 cup
9.Shredded Cheddar Cheese-1/2 cup
10.Milk-1 cup
11.Apple Cidar Vinegar-1/2 tsp
12.Sour Cream -1/2 cup

Let us start preparing our dough.

1.In a large bowl, mix all the dry ingredients. Use a fork to mix. Add the cold butter and using your finger tips, incorporate the butter into the flour uniformly. You will get a crumbly texture. Mixing of butter uniformly into the flour is an important step. Do it patiently.

2.Add Apple cidar Vinegar to a cup of milk and you will see that in 10 minutes the milk will break to form buttermilk. We are going to use this buttermilk to combine the dough.

3. In the mean time, shred the cheddar Cheese and add it to the flour mixture. After 10 minutes, add the buttermilk and just mix to  combine. You will get a sticky thick batter.

4. Line a baking tray with butter paper and grease it. Using a cup shaped spoon or an ice cream scoop, drop the dough on the baking tray like this...

5. Pre- heat your oven at 180 degrees for 10 minutes. Bake the biscuits at 230 degrees for 12- 20 minutes.  After 12 minutes of baking, you can decide how much you want to bake depending on your liking. If you want it more brown, then you need to keep it longer.  I bake it for 17 minutes. It is crunchy in the top and soft inside. A different bisvuit experience. Cool it in the rack for 7 to 8 minutes and serve it warm .

What a different snack to enjoy with your evening tea. children would love to eat this with their favourite sauce.

So, go ahead and bake this fool proof recipe Supermoms! You can bake this in your microwave too. Use the rack given and bake in the grill+microwave mode. Shall update you about the time needed for baking in microwave shortly.

Till then, Happy Baking!!!!

With love,

Masterchefmom
