Hi Supermoms,
Today, I am sharing 4 Easy steps to cook soft , fluffy rice for beginners. I am using basmati rice but you can use similar procedure for your preferred choice of rice. This is one of the fool proof methods to get fluffy rice especially for your Dal Chawal, Sambar Rice , Rajma Chawal, Chole Chawal, Pulao, Fried rice and any kind of variety rice.
You can also watch the detailed videoπ
STEP 1 :
Measure using a medium size glass or cup. Remember to use the same cup to measure water also. This way it will be easy to measure and cook for more number of people. Use a bigger vessel to cook the rice so that there is enough space for water to boil and rice to fluff up and double in quantity.
STEP 2 :
Wash and Rinse the rice twice. Additional tip: You can use the rinsed rice water to condition your hair, water plants etc.
STEP 3:
Add water quantity, depending upon the type of rice you are using. For basmati rice variety that I use, I add double the quantity of water ie., rice:water = 1:2 . For Sona Masoori or Kichadi Samba it is 1:2.5. Again, this quantity might vary slightly depending upon how aged your rice is and the rice variety. You will get the right feel of the quantity after you cook once.
STEP 4 :
Place the vessel with the rice soaked with water inside an electric rice cooker and cover the vessel with a lid. Make sure to pour 1.5 cups of water on to the base of the electric rice cooker before placing the vessel inside. This water boils first and then heats the rice vessel that you have placed inside. Remember - You should never heat the electric rice cooker when it is dry. Also optionally you can directly cook rice in the electric rice cooker. I prefer using a separate vessel so that it is easy to wash and maintain. Close the rice cooker and switch on the ‘cook’ mode. In approx. 20~25 minutes , the cooker will automatically move to the ‘keep warm’ mode . And your rice is ready! You can always open and check if the rice is done. Only thing to remember is to refill some water to the rice cooker so that the bottom of the vessel does not go dry.
Hope these steps and tips are useful ππ». If you liked the video do share it with your friends and family π
Happy Cooking!
