Have you started including banana stem in your diet ?
'Vazhaithundu' or the Banana Stem is full of dietary fibre and detoxifies our body. There are so many health benefits of consuming Banana stem regularly. They are helpful in weight management especially reducing belly fat, promotes healthy kidney functioning and also prevents acidity.
I have earlier shared Banana Stem Sambar recipe and Vazhaithandu Mor Curry Recipe.
Today, I am sharing a quick and easy recipe using raw banana stem. It tasted great as a side dish to Kadugu Sadam .
Vazhaithandu Pachadi:
Preparation time: 10 minutes
Cooking time : 2-3 minutes
Serves : 4
1 cup = 250 ml cup
Note : Peel the outer layers of the stem till the time you are not able to peel any more. Slice them into roundels and remove the fibre as you cut each roundel. Then chop them finely and keep them soaked in diluted buttermilk water to avoid discolouration. Select a tender stem for this recipe.
Ingredients :
2 cups finely chopped vazhaithandu/banana stem
1 cup thick curd ( whisked)
salt to taste
For tempering :
1 teaspoon sesame oil
1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
1/4 teaspoon urad dal/split and husked black gram
2 green chillies ( roughly chopped, adjust according to taste)
1 sprig curry leaves ( roughly torn)
Method :
1. Heat a kadai/pan with oil and temper with ingredients given under ' For tempering'.
2. Drain the excess water completely from the banana stem and add it to the kadai.
3. Add salt and cook by stirring continuously for just one minute on high flame and switch off.
4. Transfer it to a serving bowl.
5. Once cooled, add thick curd and mix well.
Your healthy and delicious Vazhaithandu pachadi is ready to be served .
